Hello,

I am currently using HP Office Jet Pro 6970. I am not able to restore network setting as it appear to be locked. Not sure how to unlock this as I bought the printer many years back. Is there any to unlock the network setting so that I can get the printer to connect to my new internet wifi? Thank you.

Hi @Wiryono

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 printer is locked due to a feature lock or a password set by the previous owner or someone who configured the printer before. This can sometimes happen when security features are enabled, or network settings are locked to prevent unauthorized changes. If you want to reconnect it to your new Wi-Fi network, you’ll need to unlock these settings.

Here are a few methods you can try to unlock the network settings and reset your printer so it can connect to your new Wi-Fi network.

Step 1: Check the Control Panel for Lock or Admin Mode

The HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 may have admin settings or a password that locks certain configurations. If this is the case, you may need to reset these settings or disable the administrator lock.

  1. Access the Control Panel on the Printer:
    • On the printer’s control panel, tap on the Wireless or Wi-Fi icon.
    • Go to Settings or Network Settings.
    • Look for an option that may be labeled Admin Settings, Network Settings, or Feature Lock.
    • If you’re prompted for a password and you don’t know it, you’ll need to reset the printer to remove the lock.

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset (Factory Reset)

To unlock the network settings and remove any locks, you can perform a factory reset on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970. This will reset all settings, including the network and Wi-Fi configuration, and allow you to reconnect to your new Wi-Fi.

To perform a reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. **Press and hold the # (hashtag) and 3 keys on the printer’s control panel.
  3. Turn the printer back on, while still holding down the # and 3 keys.
  4. After about 10-15 seconds, the printer will display a message that it’s resetting.
    • This process will reset the printer to its factory settings, which will unlock the network settings and clear any previous configurations.
  5. Once the reset is complete, the printer will restart and be ready to set up again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
