I cannot get my Officejet Pro 8600 to connect to my home Wifi network. The printer can see the network SSID, and when I enter the password on the front panel, it seems to be negotiating with the router, but it fails to connect. I've also tried to connect using the WPS button and the PIN method, and both have failed.
The printer was working on Wifi until about 1 week ago. We have other devices at home (2 laptops, 2 smart phones) that are connected to the home network, and are able to communicate. I have restarted the router, and the printer. Any suggestions?

Hi @benjwhite9
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I understand that you are not able to connect your printer to wireless. I'd like to help!
Please follow the steps mentioned below.
Do you have a USB cable? If yes try connecting via USB, and update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Next, Reset the Network Settings back to Defaults
1. On the printer control panel, touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network. 2. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then select Yes. A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored
Then run the wireless setup wizard again
1. Set up the printer hardware. See the getting started guide or the setup poster that came with your printer.
2. On the printer control panel, touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network.
3. Touch Wireless, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch OK.
4. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup.
Keep me posted on how it goes

Thanks for getting back to me on this question. I had a problem with the "update firmware" step. I downloaded and ran the firmware updater, and it could not find my printer. In other words, the list of printers was empty. I am able to print using the USB cable, so I know the data connection is good, but the firmware updater does not see my printer.
I have an HP 8600 OfficeJet Pro, and the firmware updater that I downloaded is OJP8600_N911a_2011A.exe. Is this the correct one?

Okay, I downloaded the updater that you suggested, and ran it. At the end of the update process, it displayed the following message:
Your printer failed to join the wireless network.
Issue: MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router.
Solution: If MAC address filtering is enabled on your router you should disable it. If you would like to keep it enabled, you must first add the MAC address of your printer (shown above) to the list of permitted devices for you wireless router before continuing.
============================================================================================
I can assure you that MAC addr filtering is NOT, repeat NOT enabled on my router. I have visited the router configuration
page to confirm this, and I am able to connect other devices (e.g. smart phone, security camera) to the home Wifi network
without making any adjustment for MAC addr filtering.
What's the next step? Since my HP 8600 printer can see the network name (SSID) and attempts to authenticate, I tend to
think that the hardware is okay.
The updater asked me if I want to search online for a solution and submit an error report, so I clicked "yes." After searching
a while, it came back with this message:
"Unfortunately, no solution to this problem can be found at this time."

There's one more item I forgot to mention. After running the updater you recommended, I ran the firmware updater again (OJP8600_N911a_2011A.exe). This time, it did find my printer. So, there is some progress to report!
However, when I checked the box next to my printer, the "update" button remained greyed out. In the list of printers, it shows my printer's serial number, Port/Address, Version number, and under status it says "Not Applicable." So, it seems there is no firmware update available, or if there is, no way for me to run it.

I connected with the "virtual agent" as suggested previously, and followed the instructions. A "live human being" was not an option, since my printer is out of warranty.
The guidance from the virtual agent was basically the same as given above in this thread, and it also failed to connect to the home Wifi network.
After spending several hours troubleshooting this problem (on my own and with HP help), I'm giving up. I'll just print using the USB cable, until I decide to buy a new printer (which will not be an HP model).
