Occasionally, the printer will work if I reboot my computer, unplug the printer, and restart again. Will only work for one or two printer jobs and then goes offline. Is connected wirelessly. Says it is offline.
Watched numerous videos, have run the HP Print Doctor and Scanner many times. The latest attempt put "Do not delete" next to another version of the printer. Have removed and redownloaded the printer from HP. This printer is extremely frustrating and time-consuming.

Hi @Susan80240 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are printer consistently going offline can indeed be frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:
- Check Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, printers may disconnect from the network, leading to offline status. Reconnecting it to Wi-Fi might solve the problem.
- Update Printer Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's settings menu or by visiting the HP website for instructions and downloads. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Restart Devices: Restart both your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
- Check Printer Settings: Verify that the printer is set to online mode. Sometimes, printers can be accidentally set to offline mode, especially if you've been troubleshooting.
- Printer Troubleshooter: Use the built-in printer troubleshooter in Windows 11. It can often diagnose and fix common printer problems automatically.
- Reinstall Printer Drivers: Completely uninstall the printer drivers from your computer and reinstall them. Sometimes, corrupted or outdated drivers can cause the printer to go offline.
- Static IP Address: Assign a static IP address to your printer. This can sometimes improve connectivity stability, especially in environments with many connected devices.
- Check for Interference: Ensure that there are no sources of interference near your printer, such as other electronic devices or physical obstacles blocking the Wi-Fi signal.

These are the suggested steps that I followed:
#1 - Wi-Fi connection is connected to printer.
#2 - Update Printer Firmware = connected via link provided. The software did not recognize the Serial # but did recognize the Pin. Tried to sign me up for Instant Ink. Do not want because this printer is located in a second home.
#3 - Restarted printer and computer.
#4 - Printer settings are set to online mode.
#5 - Attempted to use Windows 11 printer troubleshooter. Said it couldn't fix problems.
#6 - Had previously reinstalled printer drivers. Had totally removed the printer and installed again from "scratch."
#7 - Don't know how to assign a static IP address to printer. I am a "regular" person--not a computer expert.
#8 - No interference near the printer.
Ran the Scan Doctor 5.0.18 again. Said it found and fixed issues. Ran the Scan Doctor for scanning. Said there was a problem with the Device Manager but didn't fix it. Added a "new" printer named Scan Only - 8020 series - DO NOT DELETE.
I have used HP printers for many, many years without problems. This printer has taken hours and hours and hours of troubleshooting, and it still does not work. My method of using this printer is to turn it off and unplug it. When I have documents to print, I restart the computer. Plug in the printer and immediately print. I printed your instructions. While I was keying this response, the printer status became "printer status unknown."
I can't grasp how HP can assume that the average person would be happy with this kind of hassle. Why spend hard-earned money to have a printer that does not consistently work?
