Hello,
The HP Officejet Pro 8625 frequently loses its WiFi credentials (Network name & password) after a few days, and the blue light starts blinking, indicating a lost connection to the WiFi network. After re-setting up with WiFi credentials (Network name & password), the printer works perfectly fine with no issues for a few days, and the issue reoccurs with the blue light starting to blink again. I've rebooted the printer numerous times, the firmware is up to date, and I've performed a factory reset. It appears to be a firmware or software issue. Any help or guidance on this peculiar is appreciated

@fallguytiger, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand your HP Officejet Pro 8625 e-All-in-One Printer keeps losing Wi-Fi credentials, and the blue wireless light starts blinking after a few days. You've already tried rebooting, updating firmware, and even performing a factory reset—great troubleshooting so far!
This issue can be caused by several factors, including router settings, printer firmware behavior, or network environment. Here are some targeted steps to help resolve this:
Assign a Static IP Address
Dynamic IPs can change, causing the printer to lose connection. Assigning a static IP can help:
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings > Advanced Settings > IP Settings.
- Choose Manual and enter a static IP (e.g., 192.168.1.250), Subnet Mask (usually 255.255.255.0), and Default Gateway (your router’s IP, e.g., 192.168.1.1).
- Save and restart the printer.

Disable IPv6 on the Printer
IPv6 can sometimes interfere with Wi-Fi stability.
- Go to Setup > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > IPv6.
- Disable it and restart the printer.
Update Printer Firmware (Again)
Even if it’s up to date, reapplying the latest firmware can help.
- Download from the official HP site: Official HP® Support
Check Router Settings
- Disable Auto Channel Switching: Set your router to a fixed channel (preferably 1, 6, or 11 for 2.4GHz).
- Use WPA2-Personal Security (avoid WPA3 or mixed modes).
- Reserve the Printer’s IP in your router’s DHCP settings.
Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode
If the printer keeps dropping off, re-enable Wi-Fi setup mode:
- On the printer, go to Wireless > Settings > Restore Wi-Fi Settings.
- Then reconnect using the HP Smart app or printer panel.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

@Max3Aj, That was very helpful! I assigned the printer a static IP address last night, and so far, the printer has not lost its WiFi credentials (no blinking blue light). I will give it a week and report back. Thank you for being so helpful.

@fallguytiger, You're very welcome😊 I'm glad the static IP fix is working so far, and it's great that you're planning to try the other suggestions too. That proactive approach really helps narrow down the root cause.
Take care and have a great day.

@Max3Aj, unfortunately, the static IP setting lost the WIFI credentials after a few days, and the blue light started blinking again. The firmware is up to date, but I would like to force an update again or re-update the firmware. I am using the HP Smart app, but there is no option to re-update the firmware. How can I do that?

Hi @fallguytiger,
@Max3Aj is away at the moment, so I'll be assisting you further.
Thank you for the update, and I completely understand how frustrating this is, especially when the static IP helped briefly but didn’t hold long-term. Since you're looking to reapply the latest firmware manually, here’s exactly how to do that:
Update via HP Firmware Update Utility (Windows)
Go to the HP Support site:
🔗 HP OfficeJet Pro 8625 Drivers & Firmware
Under the “Firmware” section, download the HP Printer Firmware Update Utility.
Run the downloaded file:
Make sure your printer is powered on and connected via USB (recommended for reliable updates).
The utility will detect your printer and display the current firmware version.
Even if the version looks current, proceed with the update if the “Update” button is active.
If the Update button is grayed out:
Reboot the printer.
Reconnect via USB.
Try again.
Or uninstall and reinstall the utility.
Update via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
If you set a static IP earlier:
Open a browser on your computer and enter the printer's IP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.250).
Navigate to the Tools or Web Services section.
Look for Product Update or Firmware Update.
Click Check for Updates, if available, it’ll download and install.
Additional Tips:
Make sure Web Services are enabled on the printer (you can do this via the printer control panel under Wireless or Web Services).
Ensure your router’s firewall or DNS filtering isn’t blocking HP's update servers.
Temporarily connect the printer to another WiFi network (like a phone hotspot) and test if the same issue persists.
I hope this helps.
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
