HP SMART + ENVY 6000 USB ONLY - I AM ENRAGED!

I am about to go full Office Space on this Envy 6000 + HP Smart combo. This thing is ALWAYS offline.  I have lost count of how many times -- probably like 25 -- that i have installed, reinstalled, added, removed and RESET this printer. It appears to be impossible to use this printer unless you are connected to the internet.  There are USB install instructions from HP out there, which I have followed exactly, and they don't work.

Here is my question:

Is this possible to use this ENVY 6000 printer, including the full driver functionality, while connected over USB only, having NEVER connected to the internet?  As far as I can tell, you have to set this thing up over HP Smart, which requires a wifi connection.  After that,  you can use it only while connected (over wifi or ethernet), because if you are not online, HP Smart can't phone home, which means your printer does not work -- EVEN WHEN CONNECTED DIRECTLY VIA USB.

Can I use the Envy printer if I am offline, while connected over USB?  HOW?

Whoever is the product manager for HP SMART should be fired.  I will NEVER buy another HP printer again.  It's SO ENRAGING that I can't use a product that I own; and equally enraging that HP gaslights its customers, pretending that this thing isn't forcing you to be tracked and managed when all you want to do is print.  I could actually even get over the creepy tracking part, if this thing WORKED, but as someone who is frequently moving between ethernet, wifi, and offline status -- this thing does not work.  I should not need to be on the internet to print.
