Hi @poobah2,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the HP Smart may have enabled Wi-Fi Direct on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970, which creates a local network connection between the printer and your device. This feature is often used when a printer and device aren't connected through a traditional Wi-Fi network. Since you want to cancel this network and connect your printer to your home network, you can follow these steps:

1. Turn off Wi-Fi Direct on the Printer: HP printer setup (Wi-Fi Direct)

  • On your printer control panel, press the Wi-Fi Direct button.
  • If there isn't a direct button, follow these steps:
    • Go to the Setup menu on your printer screen.
    • Select Network Setup.
    • Navigate to Wi-Fi Direct and turn it Off.

2. Forget the Direct Network on Your Laptop:

You can disconnect and forget the Wi-Fi Direct network on your Windows 10 (S Mode) laptop:

  • Open Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  • Under the list of available networks, find DIRECT-OD-HP OfficeJet Pro 6970.
  • Click on it, then choose Forget.

3. Connect the Printer to Your Home Wi-Fi Network:

  • Ensure that your printer is within range of your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Go to the printer control panel, select Setup, and choose Network Setup.
  • Select Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts to connect to your home Wi-Fi.

After completing these steps, your printer should be connected to your home Wi-Fi network, and the Wi-Fi Direct network should be disabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
