Title:
HP Smart Tank 5100 – Solid Blue Wi‑Fi Light, Unreachable, Cannot Reset (Out of Warranty)

(*Chat GPT drafted post - with some 'invalid HTML' removed  by HP)

Post Body:

Hello HP Support Team,

I’m hoping someone can help escalate an issue with my HP Smart Tank 5100 series printer that appears to be a firmware or Wi‑Fi module failure.

Printer details:
Model: HP Smart Tank 5100 series
Serial number: CN39L6C6J5
Location: UK
Connection type: USB + Wi‑Fi
macOS: Sequoia 15.7.3

Problem Description

The printer powers on normally, but the blue Wi‑Fi light is permanently solid.
The printer is not reachable over the network, and the embedded web server (EWS) does not respond.

The device behaves as if the Wi‑Fi radio is stuck active but cannot be reset or reconfigured.

Troubleshooting Already Tried

1) Physical reset procedures

  • Wireless + Cancel (X) for 10–15 seconds

  • Cancel (X) + Black Copy

  • Cancel (X) + Color Copy
➡️ No change — Wi‑Fi light remains solid blue

2) Power resets

  • Full power cycles

  • Unplugged for extended periods
    ➡️ No change

3) Network access tests

  • Attempted direct IP access (curl to port 80)

  • EWS unreachable
➡️ Always times out or host down

4) USB recovery attempts (macOS)

  • Printer detected over USB and prints successfully

  • Created temporary CUPS printer using:

    usb://HP/Smart%20Tank%205100%20series?serial=CN39L6C6J5
  • Sent network reset commands via CUPS:

    lpoptions -p TEMP_HP -o printer-reset-network-defaults=true

➡️ No effect — Wi‑Fi light remains solid

5) HP Smart software

  • Printer detected over USB

  • No visible option to successfully reset or restore network settings
➡️ Reset command does not execute

Current Status

  • USB printing works perfectly

  • Wi‑Fi is permanently stuck ON (solid blue)

  • Network reset commands and button combinations do nothing

  • Printer cannot be added or accessed over the network

  • Appears to be a firmware or Wi‑Fi module failure state

Request

This appears to be a known failure mode where the Wi‑Fi radio becomes stuck active but unreachable and cannot be reset using documented procedures.

I would really appreciate:

• Escalation to Tier 2 support
• Confirmation whether this is a known firmware defect
• Guidance on a service firmware reflash or recovery
• Consideration for a goodwill repair or replacement (even though the unit is out of warranty)

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind regards,
Nick
