HP Smart Tank 7301 All-in-One

We moved interstate and have a new satellite internet connection. We brought our HP Smart Tank 7301 with us and we’re trying to use it at our new home. The printer can’t be found by either our desktop or smartphones. Various methods for factory reset have failed to put it into setup mode (or even achieved reset that I can tell). Any advice on the surest way to connect the printer to our new network or at least get to a factory reset so we can use setup mode?

@CC20180, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Verify Your New Network and Connection Type

  • Check Your Internet Connection: Since you have satellite internet, it's important to ensure that the internet is stable and that your devices can connect to it. Test your desktop or smartphones to verify that they are connected to the new Wi-Fi network.
  • Wi-Fi Details: Make sure you know the exact name (SSID) and password for the new Wi-Fi network. You’ll need these to connect the printer to the network.

Perform a Hard Reset (Factory Reset) on the Printer

If your printer is not entering setup mode, a hard reset can often help.

Method 1: Hard Reset through Printer

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Unplug the printer from the power outlet.
  3. Wait for about 60 seconds to let the printer fully shut down and clear any residual power.
  4. Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button (usually the one with a red triangle) and the Wireless button at the same time for 10-20 seconds.
    • The wireless light should flash.
    • This combination should force the printer into a reset state, allowing you to enter setup mode.
  5. After releasing the buttons, plug the printer back in and turn it on.

If this doesn’t work, you can try Method 2 below.

Method 2: Using the HP Smart App (If Wi-Fi Direct is Working)

If you can still connect to the printer via Wi-Fi Direct (which is a temporary network the printer creates), you can try the following steps:

  1. Connect your smartphone or computer to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network.
  2. Open the HP Smart app on your smartphone or desktop.
  3. Try to run the printer setup and follow the instructions to connect it to your Wi-Fi network.

If this doesn’t work, move to the next step.

Use the Printer’s Control Panel for Wi-Fi Setup

If the printer enters setup mode (or if it's partially reset), try the following:

  • Press and hold the Information button for 5 seconds until the control panel buttons light up.
  • Lift the ink access door.
  • Press the Information button and the Cancel button at the same time for at least 3 seconds.

Reinstall Printer Software on Devices

  • For Desktop (Windows/Mac): Go to the HP website, search for your printer model (HP Smart Tank 7301), and download the latest drivers and software package. Install the software and follow the on-screen instructions to add the printer to your computer.
  • For Smartphones: Download the HP Smart app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). Follow the app’s instructions to connect the printer.

Perform a Network Test

Once connected, print a network configuration page to verify that the printer is connected to the right Wi-Fi network:

Refer this guide to print a network configuration page: Click here

Reset Wi-Fi Settings

If the above steps still don't work, you might need to reset the printer's Wi-Fi settings:

Refer this guide to restore network: Click here
