Hi @Mw770609,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 790 is stuck in a "verifying" loop after updating web services through the browser. The "Welcome to nginx!" page you’re seeing suggests that the printer might be trying to load a web interface but encountering a configuration error. This issue typically arises from the web services or printer firmware not being properly set up or misconfigured during the update.
Here are steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Power Cycle the Printer
It seems like you've already powered it off, but let’s try a more thorough reset:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 5 minutes to ensure any residual power is fully drained.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
- Check if the issue persists after rebooting.
2. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
Performing a factory reset might help resolve any configuration errors:
- Find the reset button or reset option in the printer's settings.
- To perform a hard reset:
- Hold the Power and Cancel buttons for about 15-20 seconds.
- Release the buttons and allow the printer to reset.
- This will reset the printer’s network settings and erase any misconfigured settings.
- After the reset, try to connect your printer to Wi-Fi again and check if it gets past the "verifying" loop.
3. Reconfigure the Web Services and Update Settings
If the printer still shows the "Welcome to nginx!" page, the printer's web services might need to be reconfigured:
- Log in to the printer's web interface:
- Open a browser and enter the printer's IP address that you can ping (the one you mentioned).
- Check if you can access the printer’s internal configuration page.
- Re-enable or reconfigure Web Services:
- On the printer’s web page, check the web services settings and ensure they’re properly set up.
- You may need to disable and re-enable Web Services from the printer’s control panel or its web interface.
- Ensure that the HP ePrint or any online services are correctly set up again.
I hope this helps.
