Changed router and can't get printer to print. Hid printer and now HP App won't recognize it. Tells me to turn it on and connect it, but it is. I have tried restarting and disconnecting. Have tried installing as if new. Computer can't seem to find printer. Help, pls.

Hi @BethBoggs
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining that—changing your router can definitely throw off printer connectivity, especially with HP Smart Tank models.
Since the printer was previously hidden and now isn’t recognized by the HP Smart app, here’s a step-by-step fix that’s worked for others in the same situation:
1. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode on the Printer
This puts the printer back into pairing mode so it can be rediscovered.
- Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on the printer for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks blue.
- This resets the network settings and enables setup mode.
2. Remove Old Printer Profile from HP Smart App
- Open the HP Smart app on your PC.
- Click the printer name > Remove Printer.
- Restart the app and click the + icon to add a new printer.
3. Reconnect to the New Wi-Fi Network
- Make sure your PC and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network (preferably 2.4 GHz).
- When prompted in the HP Smart app, enter your new Wi-Fi password.
- Wait for the printer to connect and appear in the app.
4. Install Full Feature Software (if needed)
- Download the full driver package from the HP Smart Tank 5100 Driver Page for Windows 10.
- Run the installer and follow the prompts to complete setup.
5. Restart Devices
- Power off your printer, router, and PC.
- Wait 60 seconds, then power them back on in this order: router → printer → PC.
6. Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
- In the HP Smart app, go to Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Let it scan for issues and apply automatic fixes.
Let me know what you observe after trying these steps—I’ll stick with you until it’s printing again.
