HP Tango

Like many others, I'm unable to login to the EWS due to it not taking the default username and password. I've attempted to reset the network settings, with no luck. I've also found the hard reset option to not work. Has anyone successfully reset the EWS password? This is rendering the printer useless since I'm having print quality issues and the printer tools are locked down. I've attempted printing a network configuration report, but an unable to read anything.

Hi @macdonbl,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you want to reset the Embedded Web Server (EWS) password on an HP Tango printer, you can follow these steps. These methods include restoring the printer to its factory defaults, which should reset the EWS password to the default.

Here’s how you can do it:

Method 1: Restore Factory Settings via Printer Control Panel

  1. Turn on the printer: Make sure your printer is powered on.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button: Hold it until the printer’s wireless light starts to blink, which usually takes about 5 seconds. This will reset the wireless settings.
  3. Perform a full reset:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the Power button and the Wireless button simultaneously.
    • While holding these buttons, turn on the printer.
    • Continue holding the buttons for about 10-15 seconds or until the printer restarts and the wireless light starts blinking.

Method 2: Using the HP Smart App

  1. Open HP Smart: Ensure you have the HP Smart app installed on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Add the Printer: If the printer is not already added, add it to the HP Smart app.
  3. Printer Settings: Navigate to the printer settings in the app.
  4. Network Settings: Look for an option to restore the network settings or reset the printer to default settings.
  5. Reset: Follow the prompts to reset the printer.

Method 3: Print a Network Configuration Report

Although you mentioned difficulty reading the report, here's the process:

  1. Turn on the printer: Ensure your printer is powered on.
  2. Press and hold the Information button: Usually represented by an "i" icon.
  3. Print the report: The network configuration report should print, providing you with the current network status and details.

Additional Tips:

  • Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can help resolve issues. You can do this via the HP Smart app or the HP website. Update the firmware on an HP printer

Refer to this document: HP Tango User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
