I have had this printer for over a year and it has always worked fine.  nothing has changed but it won't connect to Wi-Fi.  I have tried turning both computer and printer off for awhile. and it starts up with purple light pulsing and wife light blinking but it never connects

Hi @pricerlynn

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP Envy 6400 printer is having trouble reconnecting to Wi-Fi despite working fine in the past. Let’s troubleshoot step by step to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  1. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for about 5 seconds.
  2. The wireless light should start blinking, indicating that the network settings have been reset.

Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Open the HP Smart App on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Tap the + icon to add a new printer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  4. Ensure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router during setup.

Step 3: Check Router Settings

  1. Verify that your Wi-Fi router is set to 2.4 GHz, as some printers do not support 5 GHz networks.
  2. Ensure your router uses WPA or WPA2 security (open networks or WEP security may not work).
  3. Temporarily disable MAC address filtering or firewall settings that might block the printer.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Printer Firmware page and search for your printer model.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware update for the HP Envy 6400.
  3. Restart the printer after the update.

Step 5: Assign a Static IP Address

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to find its current IP address.
  2. Open a web browser and enter the IP address to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  3. Navigate to Network Settings and assign a static IP address to the printer.
  4. Save the changes and restart the printer.

Step 6: Test with Another Device

  1. Try connecting the printer to a different computer or mobile device to rule out issues with your current device.
  2. If it works on another device, the problem might be with your computer’s settings.

I hope these steps help you reconnect your printer to Wi-Fi. Let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance! 😊
