After updating software on my MacBook Pro, operating system Sequoia 15.3.1, I got a message that the Hp extension is no longer compatible. It said to contact Hp. I seem to still be able to print from my Mac. Is there something I need to do?

Since you're still able to print from your Mac despite the message about the HP extension being incompatible, your printer is likely using Apple's built-in drivers (AirPrint) or another HP-supported driver that remains functional. However, here are a few steps you can take to ensure continued compatibility and avoid potential issues:

1. Check HP's Website for Updates

Go to HP official support page and enter your printer model to check if there is an updated driver or software for macOS Sequoia (15.3.1). If available, download and install the latest version.

 

2. Remove the Incompatible HP Extension

If the old extension is no longer needed, removing it can prevent any future conflicts:

  • Open System Settings > General > Login Items.
  • Look for any HP-related extensions under Allow in the Background and disable or remove them if they are flagged as incompatible.

3. Reset the Printing System (if needed)

If you experience any issues with printing in the future:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the list of printers and select Reset Printing System.
  • Re-add your printer using Add Printer and select AirPrint if no dedicated driver is available.

4. Test Printing and Scanning

Print a test page to confirm functionality. If your printer has a scanner, test scanning as well, since scanning drivers are often separate from printing drivers.
