Hey,
How do I do a full system restore/ rest of this printer, HP officejet Pro 8025e? It auto-updated at some point over wifi and now requires a password I do not have. It also won't let me do a network restore. Every adjustable setting is locked from the touch screen pretty much, and I don't know the password.
Thanks,

Okay, after wasting my time with HP customer service. I was able to hunt down a solution on the forums here for another printer model that worked for mine as well.
You will need to follow the instructions below to solve this issue:
- On the front panel of the printer, click four times on the location of the back arrow (#5 in the diagram) press it even if it's not lit up and blacked out
- A hidden menu will appear, click Support menu.
- Scroll down to Reset Menu, and validate with OK.
- Scroll down to Semi-Full reset, and validate with OK.
- The printer will shut down, please restart it.
- Please reconfigure the printer.
I don't know why I'm doing someone else's job or why this information is a closely guarded secret to HP, but there you have it.

Hi @fishy33
Welcome to the HP support community.
To restore your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e printer to its factory settings and resolve the issue of the locked settings due to the password, you can perform a system restore or network reset. This will wipe all custom settings and reset the printer to its default state. Here's how you can proceed:
Method 1: Perform a Full Factory Reset via Printer Control Panel
Turn On the Printer:
- Make sure your printer is powered on.
Navigate to the Setup Menu:
- On the printer’s touchscreen, tap the "Setup" icon (the wrench icon).
Find the Reset Option:
- Scroll to and select "Printer Maintenance" or "Restore Settings" (depending on the printer's menu version).
- Look for "Restore Factory Defaults" or "Reset" and select it.
- If prompted, confirm that you want to perform the reset. This will restore the printer to its factory settings, including resetting the password and all settings.
Wait for the Reset Process:
- The printer will go through the reset process. This might take a few minutes.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- After the reset, you may need to reconfigure the printer’s network settings and reconnect it to your Wi-Fi.
Method 2: Perform a Network Reset (if only network settings are causing issues)
Turn On the Printer:
- Power up your printer.
Access the Network Settings:
- On the printer’s touchscreen, tap "Setup" (the wrench icon).
- Scroll to "Network" and select it.
Select Reset Network Settings:
- Look for an option like "Restore Network Defaults" or "Reset Network Settings" and select it.
- Confirm your choice. This will reset only the Wi-Fi and network settings, and you can reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
Method 3: Perform a Reset via the HP Smart App (if available)
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e printer.
- Go to "Printer Settings" or "Advanced Settings".
- Look for the option to "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Reset".
Method 4: Reset via the Web Interface (if accessible)
Find Printer's IP Address:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s menu (usually found under "Network" > "Print Network Configuration").
- Find the printer’s IP address listed on the page.
Access the Printer Web Interface:
- Enter the printer’s IP address into a web browser on your computer (e.g., http://192.168.x.xxx).
- If the printer’s web interface is accessible, navigate to the "Settings" or "Network" section and look for the option to restore or reset settings.
Reset Settings:
- From the web interface, you may have the option to reset the printer to factory defaults or just reset network settings.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Method 1. The "Restore" button is grayed out and not selectable.
Method 2. "Reset Network Settings" is password protected, so I can't reset the network settings.
Method 3. My printer is not detectable in the HP smart app because it is not connected to any network at this time. My ISP is forcing us to upgrade our router, so I need to connect my printer to the new router via WIFI, but it's password locked as stated above.
Method 4. I tried to put the IP address of my printer into my browser and it keeps timing out. As mentioned in method 3. My printer is not connected to my new WIFI network, yet. Is there a way to manually connect it without needing a password?
None of these methods worked and I continue to be lockout if of my printer and it's settings.
I, am, however, able to connect to my printer via a WIFI Direct connection, but I would much prefer to connect the printer directly to my router via WIFI for convince and simplicity's sake. How do I remove this password protection and connect it to my wifi router?????

Hi @fishy33
Welcome back.
Please check if your printer is connected to the 2.4 GHz network, as most HP printers typically work with the 2.4 GHz frequency band.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Was I not clear that my printer is NOT connected to any NETWORK AT ALL??? 2.4Hz or otherwise. Did you even read my second reply?? What is with tech support lately??? You have someone with a basic knowledge of computers asking a non-dumb question, and then you blow them off. You and the last company I contacted on a separate issue did the same thing.

@fishy33 The steps provided for the semi-full reset should be attempted with caution and only as a last resort, when all other troubleshooting methods have been exhausted. Improper execution of these steps may potentially render the printer inoperable. Please exercise extreme care when following these instructions.
That said, We are delighted to hear that the issue was successfully resolved using these steps.
Your patience and diligence are appreciated as the response time varies based on agent availablity,
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
