We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Hi. I have been very pleased with my HP M236dw printer. The Wireless and USB setup was a breeze previously. I just upgraded my router from Asus RT-AS88U (WPA2) to Asus RT-BE92U (WPA2/WPA3).  I have been trying to connect to my home WIFI for the last 1 week but was unsuccessful. Very frustrating. Please help. Thanks.

@Andywcllim, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Refer printer's User manual for printer specific steps.

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  • Turn off your printer.
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer.
  • While holding the Wi-Fi button, turn the printer back on.
  • Keep holding the Wi-Fi button until the light blinks quickly, indicating that the network settings have been reset.

This clears any old Wi-Fi credentials, allowing you to reconfigure the printer for the new network.

2. Reconfigure Printer Wi-Fi Setup

  • Press the Wi-Fi button on the printer again (it should blink rapidly if it’s not already connected).
  • Use the printer’s control panel to reconnect it to your new Wi-Fi.

Alternatively, you can use the HP Smart app or the printer's web-based setup page (accessed via the printer's IP address) to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.

3. Check Your Router’s Compatibility

  • Ensure that the Wi-Fi network is using the 2.4 GHz frequency, as the printer may not be compatible with 5 GHz networks.
  • If your new router is dual band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), make sure the printer is connecting to the correct band.

Thank you for your reply.

The problem is solved when I changed the router 2.4Ghz from WPA2/WPA3 to WPA2.

But I did not want to short change myself in not using the more secure WPA3 on my new router. Hence, I updated the printer firmware. Change it back to WPA2/WP3 and again it works! Looks like the HR Engineers have improved the latest firmware to accept WPA3 too.

Appreciate your time and effort to solve my issue. Much appreciated,
