@Msjessicab55, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

It appears the HP LaserJet printer is prompting for a WPS PIN to connect to Wi-Fi. This is not the regular Wi-Fi password, but a unique PIN generated by the printer for secure setup.

Here’s how to resolve this:

Option 1: Use the WPS PIN Method

  1. Check the printer display – It should show a WPS PIN.
  2. On your computer, when prompted for a password during printer setup, enter the WPS PIN shown on the printer screen.
  3. The PIN is valid for only 90 seconds, so enter it quickly.
  4. Once entered, the printer should connect to your Wi-Fi.

Option 2: Use the HP Smart App (Recommended)

If the WPS PIN method fails or is confusing, use the HP Smart app:

  1. Download the HP Smart app from HP Smart Download. HP Smart
  2. Open the app and click “+” to add your printer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to Wi-Fi.
  4. The app will handle the password and setup automatically.

Option 3: Manual Wi-Fi Setup via Printer Control Panel

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  2. Choose Wireless Setup Wizard.
  3. Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the Wi-Fi password manually.

Why Didn’t the Router/Wi-Fi Password Work?

The printer is asking for a WPS PIN, not the Wi-Fi password. These are different:

  • Wi-Fi password: Used in manual setup.
  • WPS PIN: Used in secure automatic setup.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
