HP Photosmart Wireless All-in-One Printer - B109n

initially I had a problem with HP-smart app showing “printer as offline”  only when I try to use the canner.  HP smart did not recognise the scan while printing is working fine. Therefore I uninstalled everything (HP-smart app and printer drivers) and reinstalled it again using HP-solution centre. Now the printer/scanner “photosmart-wireless B109n-z” is working properly  in solution-centre (both scanner and printer).  to check why the app HP-smart showed “printer offline” when I tried to use printer-scan, I have had reinstalled the HP-smart app again. However, this time it recognised the same printer twice as offline (with printer name: HP photosmart wireless B109n-z) and online (but with a different name: HPF671B8 (HP photosmart wireless B109n-z)).  It had recognized same printer twice, but with two different names. When I clicked the printer that was recognised as  online by HP-Smart app,  it still had the same problem: printing was working fine but did not recognize the scanner. Every time I try to use the scanner it says “the printer is offline”, but when printing is working fine using the app. When I use Solution-Centre, there is only one printer recognised (HP photosmart wireless B109n-z) and both scanning and printing work fine. What is the problem with HP-Smart? Why is HP-Smart is not working properly for document-scanner ? .  I have  windows 10.

Welcome to the HP Community --

I found a review for this older printer model dated 2009.

The HP Smart application is likely unable to support the printer.

What?

The general "cut off" is about 2010 for those printers that are at least marginally supported.

There is no guarantee, in other words, that the HP Smart app can or will support this or other similar aged vintage printers.

The full driver printer software (Solution Centre), should it ever fail or be uninstalled, is not supported since the demise of Adobe Flash (January 2021).  What?  Adobe Flash controlled the container that opened the main printer software menu.  Left installed, the sub-components, for example, HP Scan might continue to function.

You can continue to use whatever works -- those apps that do not work are not going to be updated to work with this printer model.

What is supported for this printer and Windows 10?

Old driver is Gone

We see occasional questions about printers for which full driver software installation packages are no longer listed for current (or older) versions of Windows.

The software for this printer is no longer listed as available from HP.

When available for the printer and a supported version of Windows, install the Windows built-in print drivers.

When installed, the Windows print driver provides basic print function.

HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Scan? See Section FAQ > How do I use the printer functions with the built-in driver?

Scan your documents and photos:

Complete your scan jobs with a Windows app that works with the built-in driver.

Examples

Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.

Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.

Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows  Scan (in English) to install it.

You are welcome.

If you wish to keep using the printer, certainly do so as long as it will serve.
