HP Smart Tank 7305 All-in-One

Hi,

My HP 7305 wifi is set up to be connected to a wifi access point (home router).

  1. Every week or so the printer wifi stops working.  It seems that the printer wifi has not just disconnected from the access point, it has completely stopped functioning. It cannot scan and find any wifi signals--even though there are many to find (tested using ethernet connection and printer's EWS).
  2. The printer is less than 3m from the home router and always has very wifi high signal strength
  3. Turning the printer off for >5mins and on again does not work
  4. Resetting the wifi eventually gets the wifi back working (after more than one reset), but then everything has to be set up again using an ethernet connection to the home router. This is very painful.
  5. However, once working again, it will stop working after a week or so.

I was fortunate enough to be able to observe two wifi stop working incidents:

First time:

  1. Printer wifi stopped working part way through printing a page.

Second time:

  1. printer turned itself on, even though it was not being used
  2. wifi stopped working

What can be done to fix this problem permanently so that the printer wifi does not periodically drop out?

Thank you!

Hi @prch

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a persistent Wi-Fi connectivity issue with your HP Smart Tank 7305, where the printer’s Wi-Fi completely stops working every week or so. The fact that the printer can’t find any Wi-Fi signals despite being very close to the router and having strong signal strength suggests that it might be encountering a deeper issue either with the printer's Wi-Fi module, settings, or interference with the network.

Let’s go through a few steps to try and resolve the issue permanently:

1. Update Printer Firmware

First, ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Manufacturers often release updates to fix connectivity issues, and it’s worth making sure your printer is up-to-date.

  • Check for firmware updates:
    • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
    • Alternatively, you can check via the HP Smart App or the Embedded Web Server (EWS) if the printer is connected via Ethernet.

2. Perform a Full Reset of Network Settings

If the printer's Wi-Fi is not connecting even after resets, it might be helpful to perform a complete reset of the network settings and set the Wi-Fi up again from scratch.

  1. Reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings:
    • Turn off the printer.
    • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for about 10 seconds until the printer starts resetting.
    • This will return the printer to its default Wi-Fi setup mode.
  2. Reconfigure Wi-Fi:
    • Once the reset is complete, use the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer to connect it to your Wi-Fi network again. Ensure you're connecting to the 2.4 GHz band (if possible), as it’s more stable for most printers.

3. Check Router Settings

Intermittent connectivity could also be related to your router’s settings. Here are some potential router issues to look into:

a. Wi-Fi Channel Interference

If your router is set to auto-select the Wi-Fi channel, it might occasionally pick one that’s congested, causing disruptions. You can manually set your router to a less crowded channel.

  • Log in to your router via a web browser (usually at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
  • Look for the Wi-Fi settings and change the channel to something like 1, 6, or 11 (these channels are less crowded).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
