The latest HP software update killed my WiFi. I messaged HP through Whatsapp and after an hour of back and forth useless instructions, like turn of the printer then restart which I had already done multiple times; the HP agent said their is an issue and there will be a correction

Except...now my HP printer is no longer on WiFi, I will not be able to upload any corrected software!!!!

Very disappointed. I have used HP printers for many, many years in business and privately and to be kept in the dark and unable to use my printer because HP did not thoroughly test the release is more than disappointing.

Hi @iGracie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP printer lost its Wi-Fi connection after a recent software or firmware update, and now the printer cannot reconnect to the network. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart the printer and router
Turn off the printer and unplug the router for about 60 seconds.
Power the router back on first, wait for the internet light to stabilize, then turn the printer on.

Restore printer network settings
On most HP printers, press and hold the Wireless button and Cancel (X) button together for about 5 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking.
This clears corrupted or incompatible wireless settings created during the update.

Reconnect using HP Smart
Open HP Smart on your computer or mobile device.
Select Add Printer → Set up a new printer, then reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Use USB setup if the printer cannot detect Wi-Fi
Connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable.
Open HP Smart or HP Easy Start and follow the prompts to send the wireless settings directly to the printer.

Check network band compatibility
Make sure your router’s 2.4 GHz network is enabled, as many HP printers do not support 5 GHz connections.
If your router combines bands, temporarily connect your computer or phone to the 2.4 GHz network during setup.

Update firmware again after reconnecting
Once the printer is back online, open HP Smart → Advanced Settings → Printer Update and check for the latest firmware.
This ensures the printer is running the corrected update.

I hope this helps.

Thanks...I have done everything I can. I can't do anything about WiFi because it has disappeared from the network menu!! I contact HP on WhatsApp and the human at the end of that asked me to do everything you have. I had already done most of that myself. I did as he asked anyway to no avail. Now I have a lump of plastic that used to be a printer. The human on HP WhatsApp said there is an issue with the last update and I have to wait for a solution. I have had multiple HP Printers for personal use and for business, for many years and this is the most frustration I have had with HP and the lack of acceptance of the fault. The printer / software / update is at fault here. The WiFi option has disappeared from the menu and no amount of factory restore, rebooting or trouble shooting will restore the menu or functionality; except a rollback to the previous release of HP software / firmware or a 'fix' from HP. I need to print some important documents and I am frustrated that for days now, I have a boat anchor not a printer!

Hi @iGracie,

Thank you for the response.

Let’s go through a few recovery steps that can sometimes restore the wireless menu when firmware or configuration becomes corrupted.

Try connecting the printer using Wi-Fi Direct
Look for a network named DIRECT-xx-HP-… from your phone or computer.
Connect to it, then open HP Smart → Advanced Settings (EWS) to check whether Wireless is enabled in the printer’s network settings.

Perform a deeper network reset sequence
Turn the printer on, then hold the Wireless button + Cancel (X) button for about 10 seconds until the lights change.
Wait about one minute to see whether the Wi-Fi menu or wireless light returns.

Attempt USB configuration setup
Connect the printer to your computer using a USB cable, then open HP Smart or HP Easy Start and run Set up printer on Wi-Fi.
This can restore wireless configuration even when the menu is missing.

Check the Embedded Web Server (if reachable)
If the printer still has a previous IP address, type it into a browser.
Open Network → Wireless Settings and confirm wireless is enabled.

Restart the printer without network devices powered on
Turn off the printer and your router.
Power the printer on first and wait until it finishes initialization, then turn the router back on.
This sometimes restores missing wireless menu items.

Test printing via USB temporarily
If available, connect the printer via USB and print from the computer.
This confirms the printer itself is still functional while the wireless feature is being restored.

Important note:
If the Wi-Fi option has completely disappeared from the printer’s network menu after an update, it usually means the wireless module firmware or configuration did not initialize correctly. When resets do not restore the wireless menu, recovery typically requires reapplying firmware or reinitializing wireless settings through USB setup, if the printer can still be detected.

I hope this helps.
