Help please!

I've just bought an HP Deskjet 4222E and have spent over 2 hours trying to get it connected to the WiFi and connected in the HP Smart app. I'm having no joy at all! Any help greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

@Iain777, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Let’s get your HP DeskJet 4222E connected and working! Wi-Fi setup issues can be frustrating, but I’ll walk you through the most effective steps.

First: Start Fresh - Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button (📶) and the Cancel button () together for 5 seconds.
    • This will reset the network settings to default – the Wi-Fi light should start blinking.

Then: Use HP Smart App for Setup

Prep your Phone or PC:

Add the Printer:

  1. Open HP Smart.
  2. Tap “+” or Add Printer.
  3. The app should detect your HP 4222E listed as “DeskJet 4200e series” with “Set up” next to it.
  4. Tap on it, and follow the prompts to:
    • Select your Wi-Fi.
    • Enter the password.
    • Complete setup.

If It Doesn’t Show Up:

Try Manual Wi-Fi Setup:

  1. On your printer, press the Information button (ℹ️). It should print a Network Configuration Page.
  2. Look for the printer's Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
  3. On your phone or PC, connect to that Wi-Fi Direct network.
  4. Re-open the HP Smart app — it should now detect the printer.
  5. Proceed with the Wi-Fi setup from there.

Extra Tips:

  • Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
  • Disable any VPN or firewall on your phone/PC temporarily during setup.
  • If all else fails, try using a USB connection to complete the initial setup, then switch to Wi-Fi.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
