HP Envy 6120e All-in-One Printer

Hi, I have a HP6120e, unpacked it yesterday, connected and printed.

turned it on, today and it doesn’t connect to the WiFi automatically. I can input the password or use the WPS button and then it works

All the standard troubleshooting has been done. A firmware update was unsuccessful no details as to why.

any suggestions please - a WiFi printer where I have to connect manually each time isn’t ideal. Thank you for any help

Hi @ClaireLP,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Ensure Printer Compatibility with Wi-Fi Network:

  • Confirm that your Wi-Fi network is within a compatible frequency range (2.4 GHz, as some older printers may not support 5 GHz bands).

Check Wi-Fi Router Settings:

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router and ensure it is functioning correctly. Verify that the region, frequency band, and interference settings on your router are optimal for connectivity.
  • Ensure that MAC address filtering is not enabled, or add the printer's MAC address to the allowed list.

Reconfigure Wireless Setup:

  • Perform a reset of the printer’s network settings by going to the Wireless settings on the printer's control panel. Then set up the wireless connection again either using the WPS method or through the HP Smart app.

Manual IP Address Assignment:

  • You might find better consistency using a static IP address. Assign a manual IP address to the printer via the control panel or through your router’s DHCP settings.

Update Firmware via USB:

  • Since the firmware update via Wi-Fi was unsuccessful, try updating the firmware using a USB connection. Download the latest firmware from the HP Support website to a computer, connect the printer via USB to the computer, and proceed with the update.

WLAN AutoConfig Service:

  • Ensure the Windows WLAN AutoConfig service is running if you're configuring from a Windows computer. This service should efficiently manage wireless connections on the computer, which in turn can redirect configurations to the printer.

Check for Wi-Fi Interference:

  • Ensure other devices are not causing interference, such as microwaves or cordless phones, by trying to connect the printer in a different location.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software tool to automatically diagnose and resolve connection issues with your printer.

Periodically Restart Network Devices:

  • Occasionally restart the printer, computer, and wireless router to clear out temporary network issues.

I hope this helps.
