When trying to scan a document to my MacBook, my printer brings up an error saying "The printer could not connect to the Internet. If your network does not use a proxy server, try turning the printer off and then on again..." I have tried turning on and off the printer and the error is still coming up. I'm not sure what I should do?

Hi @MelissaM24 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 not connecting to the internet:
Check Network Settings:
- Make sure your printer is connected to the correct WiFi network. Go to the printer’s control panel, navigate to the network settings, and verify the network name (SSID) and signal strength.
Check Internet Connection:
- Ensure that your WiFi network is working properly. You can test this by connecting another device to the same network and verifying internet access.
Reset Network Settings on the Printer:
- Go to the printer’s menu, select Setup, then Network Setup, and choose Restore Network Settings. This will reset the network settings and you can then reconnect to your WiFi network.
Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure that the printer firmware is up-to-date. You can check for firmware updates through the printer’s control panel or by visiting the HP support website and downloading the latest firmware for your printer model.
Reconfigure Wireless Settings:
- Reconnect the printer to your WiFi network. Go to Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer’s control panel, and follow the prompts to reconnect to your WiFi.
Check Proxy Settings:
- If your network uses a proxy server, you may need to configure the printer's proxy settings. If you are unsure whether a proxy is used, consult your network administrator or check your router’s settings.
Check Firewall and Security Settings:
- Sometimes, firewall or security settings on your router or computer can block the printer’s access to the internet. Check your router’s settings to ensure that the printer is allowed access.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your router, printer, and MacBook. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
Check HP Smart App:
- If you use the HP Smart app, make sure it is up-to-date and that the printer is properly set up within the app. Reinstalling the HP Smart app can sometimes fix connectivity issues.
