Hi, i have a

HP Laserjet M28W

which stopped working as i moved to another flat (so i have another Wifi/Router). I cannot see the Printer on my App, so i tried accessing the EWS with IP Address http://192.168.223.1/. When trying i am connected to my Printer (Wifi HP Setup). On my browser ( and i tried a few) i always get a HTTP 403 so i cannot access it.

I also reset Wifisettings on the printer - no effect.

I reset to factory settings - no effect.

I printed the network testpage which said that everything is working fine - no errors.

Anybody have an idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

Hi @Kelthalos89,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are encountering an HTTP 403 error while trying to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) for your HP LaserJet M28W printer, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Printer Connection: Ensure that your computer is directly connected to the printer's Wi-Fi network (HP Setup). This connection is necessary to access the printer's EWS during setup.

Use the Correct IP Address: Double-check the IP address you are using. Typically, the printer's IP address would be displayed when connected to the HP Setup network. It is often a local IP like 192.168.x.x, but it's good to confirm via the printer's control panel if possible.

Web Browser Compatibility: Sometimes, browser security settings can lead to an HTTP 403 error. Try accessing the EWS using a different browser or use the incognito/private browsing mode.

Firewall & Security Settings: Temporarily disable any firewall or security software on your computer that might be blocking access to the IP address of your printer. Ensure to re-enable it afterward for security purposes.

Reset Network Settings: Since you already tried resetting the Wi-Fi and factory settings:

  • Re-enable the Wi-Fi Direct on your printer if disabled.
  • Perform a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it for a minute, then plugging it back in and turning it on.

Re-Connect through HP App: Use the HP App to establish the connection between your printer and the new Wi-Fi network. The app can guide you through setting up the network, ensuring correct configuration.

Firmware Update: Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Updates might resolve issues with accessing EWS.

Re-Establish Network Connection: Once the printer is reset, use the HP app or software installation to connect your printer to the new Wi-Fi network before attempting EWS access.

By following these recommendations, you should be able to access the printer's EWS and configure it with your new network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Raj_05,

Thanks for your reply.  I tried your solutions:

Printer connection:

I tried to access the EWS while conmected to the Printer:

Still HTTP 403.

Web browser compatibility:

I tried the connection on the android phone with firefox, chrome an samsung browser. And i tried it on my Linux Notebook with Firefox and Chrome. Also with incognito mode.

Firewall and Security Settings:

I have no special firewall and security settings pn my devices. Just the default security setting coming with the operation system. (Android an Fedora in my case)

Reset network settings:

I reset the printer according to your documentation - no effect.

Re-Connect through HP App:

Still not possible, printer is not found via the HP App:

Firmware Update:

Not possible since the printer cant connect to the Wifi.

I have printed the configuration pages, maybe those help or give a hint to finding a solution:

Thanks and have a good day!

Hi @Kelthalos89,

Have you tried reconnecting to the Wi-Fi? You can also try using the HP app to set up the connection again.
