Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,

We have not been able to connect our printer "HP Officejet Pro 8715" to internet either via ethernet cable or even wireless. When we click on the Wireless connection button, we get a msg saying "This feature has been disabled. Contact the person who setup the printer."

We have reset the printer to factory settings and still get the same error.

We have tried using the ethernet cable but we still don't see it on our network. The only way we can print to this print is via a USB cable. This has been a big issue for us. Please help!

Hi @Gallie42,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're dealing with a tricky issue. Here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the connectivity problem with your HP Officejet Pro 8715.

Check Network Settings

  • Printer's Control Panel:
    • Go to the Setup menu on the printer’s control panel.
    • Select Network or Wireless Settings.
    • Check if there is an option to enable wireless or wired network connections. If so, make sure it's enabled.

Update Firmware

  • Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support website.
    • Enter your printer model and check for any available firmware updates.
    • Follow the instructions to update the printer's firmware.

Verify Network Configuration

  • IP Address:
    • Print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel.
    • Check if the printer has a valid IP address assigned.
    • Ensure that the IP address is within the range of your network.

Reset Network Settings

  • Reset Wireless Settings:
    • On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > Wireless Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
    • Reconnect to your wireless network after resetting.

Check Router Settings

  • Network Configuration:
    • Ensure that your router is broadcasting on a compatible network band (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) and that there are no restrictions preventing the printer from connecting.
    • Verify that the router’s firewall or security settings are not blocking the printer.

Reconfigure the Printer

  • Wireless Network Setup:
    • Go through the wireless setup process again.
    • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer’s control panel to find and connect to your wireless network.

Check Printer Permissions

  • Security Settings:
    • Ensure that there are no security settings on the printer that might restrict network access.
    • If your printer was previously managed by an IT administrator, there might be network restrictions in place. Contact the person who set up the printer for assistance.

Test with a Different Network

  • Try Connecting to Another Network:
    • If possible, connect the printer to a different network (e.g., a mobile hotspot) to determine if the issue is specific to your current network.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
