Hi @Justy978,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To use your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw printer wirelessly and remove the need for a cable, follow these steps.

Prepare for Wireless Setup

  • Make sure your printer is turned on.
  • Ensure that your computer or mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network that you want your printer to use.
  • Disconnect the USB cable from the printer if it's connected.

Connect Printer to Wi-Fi

Use the printer control panel:

  • Go to the printer's control panel and press the Wi-Fi button or navigate to Setup > Network Setup.
  • Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • The printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks. Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.
  • Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted, and the printer will connect to the network.

Use the HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the HP website or your device's app store.
  • Open the HP Smart app and click on the + button to add a new printer.
  • The app will guide you through setting up the wireless connection. Make sure your printer is turned on and within range of the Wi-Fi network.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Update Printer Settings on Your Computer

  • If you've been using the printer via USB, you’ll need to update the printer settings on your computer.
    • On Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and choose Remove Device. Then add the printer again via the wireless option.
    • On Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click the minus sign to remove it. Then add it back as a wireless printer.

Test Wireless Printing

  • Try printing a document wirelessly to ensure the printer is properly connected.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
