HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 all in one - I'm trying to setup wireless connection to router, I'm getting an error it states MAC address filtering may be enable on your wireless router which can prevent your HP Printer from connecting to wireless network during setup.

Recommendation: If MAC address filtering is enabled and you like to keep it enabled  you must add the MAC address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless router before continuing.

How do I do this?

Hi @KC4407,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 All-In-One printer and set up a wireless connection, you'll need to address the MAC address filtering on your router. Here are the steps to add your printer's MAC address to the list of permitted devices on your router:

1. Find Your Printer's MAC Address

  1. Print Network Configuration Page:
    • On the printer's control panel, touch the Wireless icon.
    • Go to Settings > Print Reports > Network Configuration Page.
    • This page will list the MAC address of your printer.

2. Access Your Router’s Settings

Open a web browser:

  • On a device connected to your network, open a web browser (such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).

Enter the router's IP address:

  • Type the IP address of your router into the address bar of the web browser and press Enter. The router's IP address is typically something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. If you're unsure, check your router's manual or a label on the router itself.

Log in to the router:

  • You will be prompted to enter a username and password. These credentials are usually found on a label on the router or in the router's manual. Common defaults are:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin or password
  • If you have changed the login details and can't remember them, you may need to reset the router to factory settings.

Kindly check the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @KC4407,

Here are the remaining steps.

3. Add Printer’s MAC Address to the Permitted List

Navigate to MAC Filtering settings:

  • Once logged in, look for a section called Wireless or Advanced settings. The exact location and names can vary depending on your router's make and model.
  • Find the MAC Filtering section. This might also be under Security settings.

Add the printer's MAC address:

  • In the MAC Filtering section, you will see an option to Add a new MAC address or Permit Devices.
  • Enter the MAC address of your printer that you found on the Network Configuration Page.
  • Save the settings.

4. Reconnect Your Printer to the Wireless Network

Restart your router:

  • After making changes, it’s a good idea to restart your router to ensure all settings are applied.

Reconfigure your printer’s wireless connection:

  • On the printer's control panel, touch the Wireless icon.
  • Go to Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
  • Follow the prompts to reconnect your printer to your wireless network.

Additional Tips

  • Ensure the printer and router are within a good range to avoid weak signal issues.
  • Check for firmware updates for both your router and printer. Updating firmware can resolve connectivity issues.
  • If you have multiple routers or access points, ensure you are connecting to the correct one.

By following these steps, you should be able to add your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer's MAC address to your router’s permitted list and establish a successful wireless connection. If you encounter any issues, consult your router’s manual for specific instructions related to MAC filtering or contact your router's support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
