An expired certificate error when using your HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw printer with a MacBook Pro can arise due to several factors related to security settings or outdated software. Here's how you can address and potentially fix this issue:
 

Steps to Fix Expired Certificate Error

  1. Update Printer Firmware:
  2. Update macOS:
    • Make sure your MacBook Pro is running the latest version of macOS. Go to System Preferences > Software Update to check for updates.
       
  3. Update Printer Driver:
    • Sometimes the drivers might be outdated, causing communication issues. Update to the latest printer driver:
      • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
      • Remove the existing printer by selecting it and clicking the minus (-) button.
      • Re-add the printer by clicking the plus (+) button, and select your printer from the list.
      • Ensure that the latest drivers are automatically selected during this process.
         
  4. Reset Printing System:
    • Sometimes resetting the printing system on your Mac might resolve certificate errors:
      • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
      • Right-click or control-click in the Printers list and choose "Reset printing system."
      • This will remove all printers and their settings. You will need to re-add your printer afterwards.
