Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

I'm setting up a new HP Color LaserJet Pro M255dw.  I was able to manually set an IPv4 address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the touchscreen. but I do not see a way to set a Preferred DNS Address, Alternate DNS Address, or WINS Server.  Unless I can set these values, I can not get the printer onto our network.  Since the printer is offline, using a web interface is not possible.

Treeko,

Thank you for your response.  Your link was not applicable to my situation, but I was able to resolve the problem myself by following these steps:

  1. First, I turned on Wi-Fi Direct on the printer as described in Step One in "HP LaserJet Pro - Set up HP Wi-Fi Direct printing".  Once it was running, I used the printer's touchscreen to get the Wi-FI Direct IP address and password.
  2. Next, using a laptop, I connected to the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) domain as described in the second half of Step Two of the above link.
  3. Once connected to the EWS, I was able to set the DNS and WINS server IP addresses using the "Network Identification" section under "TCP/IP Settings" as described in Chapter 4 of "Configuration Guide Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)".  I should mention that my changes were not displayed until I plugged in the Ethernet cable and the printer then turned on IPv4.

Hopefully, this detailed procedure will be helpful to anyone else in the same situation.
