HP Envy 7645
iOS

I have recently set up a new wireless internet service through T-Mobile Home Internet Gateway and Netgear Orbi to boost the signal. I can't get the AirPrint function to work on my iPhone 13 or iPad and that is the problem I need to solve. I have been troubleshooting through Apple & T-Mobile for days now and have gone through the virtual assistant troubleshooting on the HP Website. I was successful at having my MacBook Air recognize the printer only by using the printer's IP address versus the typical auto configuration. Otherwise, the printer is only recognized as a scanner  using the HP product name. The two themes of questions through all of this troubleshooting that have come up are: 1. Since the Internet system supports duo channels (2.4 or 5) how do I know what channel my printer is on AND is that the problem? If so, how do I know what channel the printer is on to make sure both printer and router/modem are on the same channel? 2. T-Mobile says their Gateway does not support WPS devices. Could that be the problem? Note: The printer is recognized by a Dell laptop under its product name and a MacBook Air through the IP address only, so it IS recognized by two of six  devices in our home network.  The remaining devices require this AirDrop recognition which is not happening.

@JJReg, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

If you have issues with enabling AirPrint on iOS devices, kindly contact Apple for assistance. If you want to enable this option on the printer, refer to the steps on this document  - No AirPrint Printers Found error

If you would like to know how to print from the iOS devices, refer to - HP printer setup (Apple AirPrint for iPhone, iPad)

Alternatively, you may also download the HP Smart app from the App Store to print and scan.

A Network Configuration Page lists important network settings such as network status and the printer IP address.

  1. Load plain white paper into the input tray.

  2. From the printer control panel home screen, swipe left, and then touch Setup.

  3. Swipe up, touch Print Reports, and then touch Network Configuration Report.

    A Network Configuration Page prints.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Thank you. Please know I have gone to Apple and am at their direct engineering support level. I have also gone to T-Mobile for their support. Since T-Mobile's home internet has two channels - 2.4 g  and 5.00 g, with T-Mobile's support I  have created two separate internet channels with the idea that the printer is only 2.4 g compatible.  I have now downloaded your referenced app and even though I have verified all devices are on the same internet, using your app it says the printer is 'off line'. I know the printer is ON and have verified it IS on the Internet and IS on. I have refreshed a couple of times and turned the devices on and off. Without making it through this step I can not download the app. I appreciate the thoroughness of your response.

I have made further progress...I have now downloaded the HP app on my iPhone and MacBook Air. It still did not recognize the printer unless I put the IP address in. Still can not AirPrint, but have verified the Internet IS connected.

@JJReg

Did you check if the AirPrint option is enabled on the printer as shown in this document  - No AirPrint Printers Found error?

  • Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'.

Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

  • This printer supports WPA encryption, check if the router is on the same encryption method. If using WEP or WPA-PSK+FT change it to WPA-PSK

Which version of macOS are you using?

Keep me posted.

In answer to your questions:

1. Yes, my router is able to forward "Bonjour packets".

2. Yes, my router is on WPA-PSK encryption method.

3. My macOS is Monterey version 12.1.

Thank you for your assistance.

I should also add, I also downloaded the HP Smart app on all of my Apple devices. It gives me another printing option, which is good, however, when I go in to advanced settings to make sure AirPrint is 'on' AirPrint is grayed out under AirPrint Status and when I go in to settings it appears to be on.
