I launched Print and Scan Doctor with a brand new USB cable.
I saw a message "Saving the network configuration on the device" (in French) that I do not remember having seen during the previous sessions, but this is the only change.
I finished on a failure to connect the printer to the network, with an "unknown error".
The following step invites me to depress the "WPS" button on the printer, unfortunately the printer does not have a "WPS" button.
So, I am going to continue printing through USB (everybody coming to lay his laptop on the printer, and connect it with the USB cable).
An idea about where the problem can reside would be welcome.

This is the last entry in the Application log in the event viewer.
Despite the label, the level is "information".
The event is of type BlueScreen (I did not see any BSOD at least recently), the error is of type 0.
If somebody thinks this can be somewhat relevant, I can translate what needs to be.

Hello everybody,
So, a message during the installation said "Saving the network configuration on the device".
My first understanding was "saving the network configuration to the device". With a little distance, it is also possible to understand that the configuration concerning the device is saved on the network. To stay more simple I am going to pursue the reasoning with my first understanding, as the router displays correctly the name of the printer on its configuration page.
From this, results that the printer has a memory.
This raises a range of questions:
- how to test the memory ?
- I have read somewhere that the printer also has a memory for the buffer. Is it the same? If the buffer memory is damaged I imagine some problems can arise to print, what sort of problems ? Do they appear at first page ?
- what error message will be displayed if the memory for the configuration is damaged ?
- can a damaged memory initiate a network error message?
I presume that for these questions somebody with HP's documentation is better equipped to answer.

@Gloops1, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you so much for posting your query! My colleague is currently out, but don't worry – I’ll be taking over and making sure we get this sorted for you.
I truly appreciate your patience as you have worked through the steps! 😊 I think it might be a good idea to go ahead and perform a factory reset on the device. This will erase all the data and bring the printer back to its default settings. After that, you can set it up again, and fingers crossed 🤞, this time you won’t run into any errors! 🙌
You may refer to this guide: Restore factory defaults on your HP printer | HP® Support
If the issue persists i suggest you reach out to the nearest HP Authorised service center for personalized assistance. They can provide one-on-one help to fix the problem.
Note: There might be a nominal charge for the service they provide.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer.
I had no idea the reinitialization was feasible so easily. It sounds like something that should solve some problems, and there are no data saved on the printer, so it should not take a lot of time.
Going to take a few hours before being available nonetheless, the time is limit for I can do that before leaving, but it seems possible.
It sounds that the label for the PIN is not the same as for the serial number.
I shall tell you.

So, I accessed the cartridge case, I only saw two labels, one that says to mind the heat during the function, and the other one shows the serial number (much more readable than behind the printer) and the product number. This information also appears in HP Smart. If I find no other label, maybe it is not needed.
I displayed HP Smart in English, then it displays three tabs : Home, Information, Maintenance.
It took me a little time to realize that Settings surely refers to the key icon in the down left corner of HP Smart.
Well, I click on a Start button, and after a few seconds I see "Diagnostics terminated, and no problem found".
Is this what was meant ?
An automate proposed to help, it said to click on the WPS button.
When I asked where the WPS button is, on a MFC138a, it did not understand the question.

Well no I do not try to do that.
The video says clearly the printer must have a WPS button or a menu, and it has neither a WPS button nor a menu.
As the WPS procedure includes pressing the WPS button on the router, a difficulty appears as there is no WPS button on the router.
So, an artificial INTELLIGENCE that answers to MFC138a by using WPS, and that does not know what "where is the button ?" means, I am somewhat perplex.

So, let me sum up.
The problem appears with two computers, so I imagine it is not inside the computer or the operating system.
I connected the printer to the computer with a new USB cable and still could not establish the link for network printing. So, it is not the USB cable. I took the old one again, at a moment it can be useful to have a new one.
So, the router?
The operator did not want to assume support for printing .problems.
Is there any test I have to realize?
When I plug a disk the router recognizes it, then I plug the printer it is recognized.
The configuration page displays properly the model of the printer. Can we say this is sufficient?
I can get a ping on 192.168.1.254, not on 192.168.1.254:631
I have to admit that I do not know whether a specific port is supposed to answer to ping.
I saw that at a moment the new firmware of the bbox led to connect to another port, but that does not seem to be up-to-date. Any information that side?
Is it normal that the configuration of the port is locked?
Do I have to handle it in debug mode?
