Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

My Internet provider cut off the broadband prematurely as we are awaiting new fibre cable connection.  They sent me a dongle, as a temporary measure,  so now have broadband but cannot print eg.  an email.   The dongle only has one connection to the computer USB port.    Previously the printer was connected with the yellow cable to the router which is now disconnected and switched off.  I am an old lady highly stressed about this as not sure what to do.  Printer model is HP Officejet 6500A Plus.  Should I connect the dongle to the printer ?   Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

You just lack access to the internet.  Your PC can still print if it and the printer are connected to the old router.  Connect the printer back up with the yellow cable.

The PC just needs to be connected to the router to be able to access the printer.   Either using Wi-Fi or a direct cable like another yellow one.  If it was working before the broadband was canceled, the it is still working but cannot get on the internet.  It should still be able to print.

I am not sure of the purpose of the dongle.

If the dongle is USB to an ethernet socket then it is for a laptop where the laptop Wi-Fi is not working.  In that case find another yellow cable and connect the laptop to the router using the dongle.

There is another possibility.  If the printer has a USB port just use a USB cable to connect the PC to the printer.

There is a 3rd possibility.  Are you trying to print from a Smartphone (IPhone or Android)?

If so, the dongle is USB-C to USB-A so connect your phone to the printer using the dongle.

some adapters have a second cable (or socket) to allow the  smartphone to be charged at the same time as printing.
