Hi @Lesley1956x,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To reset the password for your HP printer settings, especially if you're locked out of the admin panel or forgot the password, here are the most effective methods depending on your printer model:

Method 1: Factory Reset via Printer Control Panel

This works for most HP printers with a touchscreen or display panel:

  1. Turn on the printer.
  2. On the home screen, tap the Settings icon (gear ⚙️).
  3. Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Setup.
  4. Select Restore or Restore Defaults.
  5. Choose Restore Factory Defaults or Reset Admin Password.
  6. Confirm the reset.

⚠️ This will erase all settings, including Wi-Fi, fax, and email configurations.

Method 2: Button Combination Reset (for some models)

For printers without a screen (like DeskJet or ENVY models):

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons together.
  3. While holding, turn the printer back on.
  4. Wait until the printer resets (lights may blink).

Method 3: Reset via HP Smart App

If your printer is connected to the HP Smart app:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your phone or PC.
  2. Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
  3. Navigate to Security > Administrator Settings.
  4. You can change or reset the password from here.
  5. If locked out, go to Settings > Restore Defaults to reset everything.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
