Hello,
We brought a HP Officejet Pro 8130e but we do not have Wi-Fi at home. Will this printer only print via Wi-Fi connection?
I cannot print and have tried using my phone hot spot to print and also connected cord between laptop and printer via usb, It shows as, "Ready", then when I go to print it says, "Printer job paused, printer offline...". Any ideas? Thank you.

@Haidz1, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e can print via Wi-Fi, USB, or Ethernet, so it does not strictly require a Wi-Fi connection. Since you don't have Wi-Fi at home, here are some troubleshooting steps to get it working with USB:
1. Ensure USB Connection is Properly Set Up
- Make sure you are using a working USB cable (preferably a USB 2.0 or higher cable, less than 2m in length).
- Try a different USB port on your laptop.
2. Install the Correct Printer Drivers
- Download and install the full HP Smart app or HP Print and Scan Drivers for your printer from the HP Support website.
- Restart your computer after installation.
3. Check Printer Status
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Right-click on your printer > See what's printing.
- If any print jobs are stuck, cancel all jobs and try printing again.
- Ensure the printer is not set to “Use Printer Offline” by clicking Printer > uncheck Use Printer Offline.
4. Try a Different USB Mode
- On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Preferences > USB Mode and make sure it is set to "High-Speed" or "Normal", not "Disable".
5. Check Windows Print Spooler
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
