Hp color laser jet pro mfp m183fw will not connect to spectrum WiFi.  Geek squad told me my printer does not support the new router I received from Spectrum. Is there a work around for this?

Hi @Roger3077,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out. If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw isn't connecting to your new Spectrum Wi-Fi router, this can happen due to network compatibility differences, especially with new dual-band or Wi-Fi 6 routers.

Let’s walk through what’s happening and how to fix it.

Root Cause

Your printer only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. Most new routers from Spectrum (especially Wi-Fi 6 models) use a merged SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands — or they may prioritize 5GHz, which your printer cannot detect or connect to.

1. Reset Printer Network Settings

  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Wi-Fi button.
  2. Go to Settings → Restore Network Settings.
  3. Confirm the reset — the printer will restart.

2. Use the Wireless Setup Wizard

  1. On the printer, go to Wireless Settings → Wireless Setup Wizard.
  2. Let it scan for available networks.
  3. Select your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network (not the 5 GHz one).
  4. Enter your Wi-Fi password carefully.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
