Hi @At-wits-end74,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP Smart app can't find your new HP OfficeJet Pro 8122e, try the following steps:
Check Network Connection:
- Ensure that both your printer and computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, being on different networks (e.g., one on a 2.4 GHz band and the other on 5 GHz) can cause connectivity issues.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, computer, and router. This can help resolve any temporary network issues.
Update the HP Smart App:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed. Check for updates in the Microsoft Store or app store.
Printer Setup:
- Confirm that the printer is set up correctly and connected to your Wi-Fi network. You might need to use the printer's control panel to reconnect to Wi-Fi if it's not already connected.
Reinstall HP Smart:
- Uninstall and then reinstall the HP Smart app. Sometimes, this can resolve detection issues.
Firewall/Security Software:
- Check if any firewall or security software is blocking the HP Smart app. Temporarily disable them and see if the app can detect the printer.
Check Printer Status:
- Make sure the printer is not in an error state. If there are any error messages on the printer's display, address those first.
Add Printer Manually:
- In the HP Smart app, you can often add the printer manually. Go to the app’s “Add Printer” option and follow the instructions.
Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure that the printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can usually check for firmware updates through the printer’s control panel or HP’s support website.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
