I am trying to connect my printer to my university dorm wifi, however it will not work. I have tried everything but none of it is working, such as trying to find the MAC address and restarting the printer and wifi setup.
How can I fix this or do I need to get a new printer and return this?

Hi @Olivia2006,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Connecting a printer to university dorm WiFi can be challenging, as university networks often use security settings that don't work well with standard home printer WiFi setups. Here are some suggestions that might help get your HP DeskJet 2810e connected.
- Check Network Requirements: University networks often use enterprise-level security, like WPA2-Enterprise, which may not be compatible with your printer. HP DeskJet printers generally only support WPA2-Personal and WPA3-Personal, so if your network requires WPA2-Enterprise, your printer will likely not connect.
- MAC Address Registration: Some universities require you to register the printer’s MAC address to allow it access. Since you’ve located the MAC address, contact your university's IT department to see if they can whitelist it.
- Connect to a Personal Hotspot: If your dorm’s WiFi restrictions prevent you from connecting the printer, try using a mobile hotspot as an alternative. This could work well if you don’t print large volumes.
- Use HP Smart App with Direct Connect: HP printers often offer WiFi Direct, which lets you connect your devices directly to the printer without an internet connection. Using the HP Smart app, select Set up a new printer, then choose Direct Connect. You can send documents from your device to the printer this way.
- Ethernet Connection (if available): Some dorms allow you to set up a personal router using an Ethernet connection. You can connect the printer to this router, bypassing the dorm’s network restrictions.
- Ask for IT Assistance: Your university’s IT department may have solutions or special instructions for setting up personal devices on their network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
