HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I successfully set up my Wi-Fi connection, and it worked fine for a couple of days. However, it eventually lost connectivity. I repeated the setup process, and it worked again for a few days, but the issue keeps happening. I've had to do this three or four times already, and the connection still keeps dropping. Does anyone know how to fix this or what I can do to prevent it from disconnecting?

Hi @ACDG

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw is having trouble maintaining a stable Wi-Fi connection. Here are some steps to help resolve this issue and prevent it from recurring:

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off your printer, router, and MacBook.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn them back on, starting with the router.

Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength:

  • Ensure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
  • Avoid placing the printer near walls, metal objects, or other devices that might interfere with the signal.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi:

  • On the printer's control panel, press and hold the Wireless button until it starts blinking.
  • Press the WPS button on your router to reconnect the printer to the network.
  • Alternatively, use the HP Smart app to set up the Wi-Fi connection again.

Assign a Static IP Address:

  • Open your router's settings (usually accessible via a web browser).
  • Find the list of connected devices and locate your printer.
  • Assign a static IP address to the printer to prevent it from losing its connection when the router refreshes.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Visit the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer.
  • Install the updates to ensure compatibility and improved performance.

Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to "Setup" > "Network" > "Restore Network Settings."
  • Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network after the reset.

Check Router Settings:

  • Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
  • Disable any features like MAC address filtering or firewall settings that might block the printer.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
