Hi @Fred321123,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble setting up your HP Smart Tank 5105 Printer on a wireless network. Setting up printers can sometimes be a bit tricky, but I'll do my best to guide you through the process. Here are the general steps you should follow:
Prepare the Printer:
- Make sure your printer is turned on and properly plugged in.
- Check if there's a touch screen or control panel on the printer. If so, use it to navigate through the setup process.
Connect to Wi-Fi:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Wireless or Network settings.
- Choose the option to connect to a wireless network.
- Select your Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted.
Install Software:
- Go to the official HP support website and search for the HP Smart Tank 5105 Printer's drivers and software.
- Download and install the necessary software for your operating system.
Run Setup Wizard:
- Launch the installed software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
- During the setup process, you might be asked to choose the connection type. Select "Wireless" or "Network" as the connection type.
Printer Registration:
- If prompted, register your printer with your HP account. This can help you manage your printer remotely.
Test the Connection:
- Print a test page from your computer to ensure the printer is correctly set up and connected.
Troubleshooting:
- If you encounter any errors or issues during setup, consult the printer's manual or online resources for troubleshooting steps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks very much, Alden 4. You're steps were quite accurate and useful for my situation. However, when I got to the "Register your printer" part I could not proceed because firstly, it wouldn't accept that I was a long time member and had an account already, and then would not let me register unless I created a new account and new password. I was reluctant to do this because it would ignore my past history of hardware and software use.
In the end, I went to the HP Support line and got through to a real person who helped me through the difficulties with registration and the initial difficulty with recognising the 2G network I was using. It took him over 40 minutes but we got there in the end.
Cheers, Fred 321123
