Hi @LA113,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Smart Tank Plus 551 isn't reconnecting to Wi-Fi after a power outage, here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Restart Devices
- Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Restart Router: Unplug your router, wait for about 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Allow it to fully restart.
- Restart Computer/Phone: Restart the device you're trying to print from.
Reset Network Settings on Printer
- Restore Network Defaults:
- On the printer's control panel, go to the Wireless menu.
- Select Restore Network Settings or Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the action.
Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi
- HP Smart App:
- Download the HP Smart app on your mobile device or computer if you haven't already.
- Open the app and add a new printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- WPS Push Button Method:
- On your printer, press and hold the Wireless button until the wireless light starts blinking.
- Press the WPS button on your router within two minutes.
- The printer should automatically connect to the Wi-Fi network.
Check Wi-Fi Signal
- Make sure the printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router.
- Ensure there are no large metal objects or other electronic devices that might interfere with the Wi-Fi signal.
Manual IP Address Configuration
- Set a Static IP:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's control panel.
- Note down the printer's current IP address (if any).
- Open a web browser and type the IP address in the address bar to access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
- Go to the Network or Wireless settings.
- Set a manual IP address that is outside of your router's DHCP range but within the same subnet.

Check Router Settings
- Band Compatibility: Ensure your router is broadcasting on a 2.4 GHz band, as many printers do not support 5 GHz bands.
- MAC Address Filtering: Ensure that your router isn’t blocking the printer’s MAC address.
Update Firmware
- Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
Reset Printer to Factory Settings
- If all else fails, you can reset the printer to factory settings:
- Go to Setup on the printer's control panel.
- Select Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- After the reset, follow the initial setup instructions to reconnect to Wi-Fi.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
