Hi @IanSimpson

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

To reset your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer to its factory settings and regain access, you can follow these steps:

Power On the Printer: Ensure the printer is powered on.

Access the Control Panel: On the printer's control panel, press the Home button (the house icon).

Navigate to Settings: Use the arrow keys to scroll to Setup or Settings, then press OK.

Restore Factory Defaults:

  • Look for an option like Restore Defaults or Reset. This may be under a sub-menu like Service or Tools.
  • Select Restore Factory Defaults and confirm your selection.

Reconfigure the Printer: After the reset, you’ll need to set up the printer again, including network settings (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

Set Up Admin Password: Once the printer is set up, you can create a new admin password through the control panel or the web interface.

If you can’t find the exact menu options, you can refer to the printer’s user manual for more detailed instructions specific to your model. If you're still having trouble, consider contacting HP support for further assistance.

To connect your HP ENVY 6055 All-In-One Printer to Wi-Fi, follow these steps to reset the Wi-Fi settings and set up a new connection:

Reset the Wireless Settings:

  • Make sure your printer is powered on.
  • On the printer's control panel, press the Home button (the house icon).
  • Navigate to Settings (gear icon) and select it.
  • Look for Network or Wireless settings.
  • Select Restore Network Defaults. Confirm the reset if prompted.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi:

  • After resetting, the printer will no longer broadcast the "DIRECT" connection.
  • Ensure your Wi-Fi network is active and note down the Wi-Fi SSID (network name) and password.
  • Press the Wireless button on the printer to enable Wi-Fi.
  • Use the control panel to select Wireless Setup Wizard. This will scan for available networks.

Select Your Wi-Fi Network:

  • Choose your Wi-Fi network from the list.
  • When prompted, enter your Wi-Fi password. Make sure it’s entered correctly (case-sensitive).

Print a Network Configuration Page (optional):

  • If you need to verify the connection or troubleshoot, you can print a network configuration page from the printer's settings.
