I am trying to reconnect my printer to my computer over my wireless network, every time i try to do so, HP smart app asks me to turn on location for my desktop apps. When I follow the prompt to turn on my location for my desktop apps, it is already on, and I can't move forward with my printer setup.

@CaitlinPropst1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We see you're trying to reconnect your HP printer over Wi-Fi using the HP Smart app, but the app keeps asking you to enable location services even though they are already turned on in Windows settings.

Please follow these steps,
Confirm Location Access for HP Smart

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Location.
  2. Ensure Location services is On.
  3. Scroll down to Let apps access your location and ensure HP Smart is listed and enabled.
  4. Also, check Let desktop apps access your location is On.

If HP Smart is not listed, proceed to the next step.

Reset HP Smart App Permissions

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Find HP Smart, click the three dots, and select Advanced options.
  3. Click Reset to clear the app’s data and permissions.
  4. Reopen HP Smart and try the setup again.

Update HP Smart App

Make sure you're using the latest version: HP Smart

Restore Printer Network Settings

If the issue persists:

  1. On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings.
  2. Reopen HP Smart and try adding the printer again.
