Try these steps:

Check Printer Installation:

  • Ensure the printer software for your model is installed on your computer. You can do this by visiting the HP Support website to download the latest drivers and software compatible with Windows 10 (64-bit).

Connect the Printer:

  • Connect your printer to the computer using a USB cable or wirelessly through your Wi-Fi network. Make sure the connection is secure and recognized.

Configure HP Instant Ink:

  • HP Instant Ink is a subscription service, and any disruption in billing or account status might affect your printer’s functionality if subscribed. Check your account status and subscription settings by logging into the HP Instant Ink portal.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it. Wait for about 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve connectivity or recognition issues.

Verify Printer Settings:

  • Open Devices and Printers from the Windows Start Menu. Ensure that the HP DeskJet 2742e is set as the default printer.
  • Check for any error messages or alerts that might indicate what is wrong.

Run HP Diagnostic Tools:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant available on your computer to run diagnostics. It can automatically fix some common printer issues. Alternatively, download the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP website to perform an automated diagnosis and fix routine.
