Hi @chasphill,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer screen says it's offline, it means your computer or device is unable to communicate with the printer. This can happen for several reasons, and here’s how to troubleshoot it:
1. Printer is Not Connected to the Network
- If you're using Wi-Fi, the printer might have lost connection.
- On the printer screen, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings and confirm it’s connected to the correct Wi-Fi.
2. The computer and Printer Are on Different Networks
- Make sure your computer and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- If your computer is on a guest or mobile hotspot network, the printer may not be visible.
3. Printer is in Sleep Mode or Powered Off
- Wake the printer by pressing any button.
- Ensure it’s powered on and not in energy-saving mode.
4. “Use Printer Offline” is Enabled
- On your computer:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your HP printer → See what’s printing.
- Click Printer in the top menu → Uncheck “Use Printer Offline”.
5. Driver or Software Issue
- The printer driver may be outdated or corrupted.
- Reinstall the printer using the HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store or from HP’s official driver page.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
