Hi @L-Jackson
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
When an HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e (or similar) shows as offline, it usually means your computer can’t reach it — often because of a network change, power save mode, or driver issue.
Here’s how to get it back online step-by-step:
Quick Checks
Make sure the printer is powered on and the display is lit.
If it’s wireless, check the printer’s Wi-Fi icon — it should show your network name with full bars.
If using USB, unplug/replug into a different port.
Restart Everything
Turn the printer off.
Restart your computer.
Power cycle your router (unplug 30 seconds, then plug back in).
Turn the printer back on after the Wi-Fi is up.
Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi
On the printer screen:
Tap the Wi-Fi icon → Settings → Wireless Setup Wizard.
Select your network and enter the password.
Once connected, print a Network Configuration Page to confirm it has an IP address.
Update or Reinstall the Printer in Windows
Press Windows + R, type:
- control printers
Right-click your HP 8135e → see if Use Printer Offline is checked — uncheck it if so.
If it still shows offline:
Remove the printer.
Download the HP Smart app from HP’s site or the Microsoft Store.
Add the printer again.
Check Firewall/Antivirus
Sometimes security software blocks printer traffic.
Temporarily disable firewall and see if it goes online.
If it works, add the printer’s IP address as an exception.
If It’s Still Offline
Assign the printer a static IP in your router’s settings so it won’t “disappear” from the network.
Try connecting via USB once — if that works, the printer’s hardware is fine and it’s a network/driver issue.
Let me know if you’ve already tried any of these steps or if you’re seeing a specific error code. I can guide you further based on that.
