HI @talltimber,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Deskjet 3510 printer supports only a 2.4GHz wireless connection and does not support a 5GHz connection. Here’s why you might be experiencing difficulty connecting it to your new 5G router:
- Compatibility: The HP Deskjet 3510 is designed to connect to wireless networks that operate on the 2.4GHz frequency band. It does not have the hardware capability to connect to networks that operate on the 5GHz frequency band.
- Router Settings: If your new router is a dual-band router (supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz), ensure that the 2.4GHz band is enabled and broadcasting. Some routers have separate network names (SSIDs) for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Make sure you are connecting your printer to the 2.4GHz network.
- Network Configuration: On your new router, check the wireless settings and ensure that the security settings (like password and encryption type) match those configured on your printer.
- Connection Process: Follow the setup instructions from HP to connect the printer to your wireless network. Typically, this involves pressing the Wireless button on the printer and then using the printer’s control panel to select your network and enter the password.
- Reset Printer Network Settings: If you’ve previously tried to connect the printer to the 5GHz network, you may need to reset the printer’s network settings to start fresh. Refer to your printer’s manual or HP’s support website for instructions on how to perform a network reset.
- Alternative Connection Methods: If you continue to have trouble connecting wirelessly, consider connecting the printer to your router via a USB cable or using a wired Ethernet connection if your printer and router support it.
- Verify Router Settings: Double-check that your router is not set to use 5GHz only. Some routers allow you to configure separate settings for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, including enabling or disabling each band independently.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
