Hi @HeatherMaryW,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
You can use your mobile phone as a hotspot but when you do this, your mobile will act as a router.
In this scenario, you will no longer be able to print from the same phone, however, you can connect another device to the same hotspot and print from that device.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I had connected my laptop to the hotspot on my phone and was then trying to print from that. Any other solutions?
However, in the meantime I am getting WiFi through a NetGear Nighthawk. Does that make a difference?

Hi @HeatherMaryW,
Yes, it may be.
Is that your home network?
If yes, Using NetGear Nighthawk:
If you have access to WiFi through your NetGear Nighthawk, consider the following:
Connect Printer to Nighthawk:
- Connect your HP Deskjet 3721 to the NetGear Nighthawk WiFi network. This can often provide a more stable and reliable connection than a hotspot.
Printer Configuration:
- Check the printer settings on the HP Deskjet 3721 to ensure it is connected to the correct WiFi network (NetGear Nighthawk).
Reconfigure Print Job:
- If you've switched from a hotspot to the Nighthawk, reconfigure the print job on your laptop to use the printer connected to the Nighthawk.
Check Network Stability:
- Ensure that the NetGear Nighthawk is providing a stable and strong WiFi connection. Unstable connections can lead to printing issues.
Update Router Firmware:
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your NetGear Nighthawk router. Keeping the router firmware up to date can resolve potential compatibility issues.
Additional Tips:
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, laptop, and NetGear Nighthawk to refresh the connections.
Print a Test Page:
- Use the printer's control panel to print a test page. This can help identify if the issue is with the printer itself or the connection.

I cannot get the printer to connect to any WiFi network. Not my phone hotspot or my NetGear Nighthawk after following all the steps. I've also used a lot of ink and paper printing out instruction pages!!
Any other suggestions. It's driving me nuts!
