HP DeskJet 4255e All-in-One Printer
Other

I unplugged my hp4255 wireless printer and moved it for a week. Now it will not connect to my laptop. I cannot get it to print anymore and it is less than six months old. I had no trouble getting it going when it was brand new but I cannot figure out how to get it to work now

@Cronewoman, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer suddenly stops connecting after being unplugged for a while. Let’s walk through some steps to get your HP DeskJet 4255e back online and printing again.

Restart Devices

  • Power off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your laptop.
  • After 30 seconds, plug the printer back in and power it on.

Check Wi-Fi Connection

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi network is active and the printer is within range.
  • On the printer, press the Wireless button to check if it's connected (the light should be solid blue).
  • If the light is blinking or off, the printer is not connected to Wi-Fi.

Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

Use the HP Smart App to reconnect your printer:

  • Download or open the HP Smart App.
  • Tap “+” to add a new printer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect your printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Alternatively, you can reset the wireless settings:

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on the printer for 5 seconds until the wireless light starts blinking.
  • This puts the printer in Wi-Fi setup mode.
  • Use the HP Smart App to complete the setup.

Reinstall the Printer on Your Laptop

  • On your laptop, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove the HP DeskJet 4255e if it’s listed.
  • Re-add it using the HP Smart App or Add a printer option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
