@MJ310, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Envy 4500 to Xfinity WiFi!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you are encountering difficulties connecting your HP Envy 4500 to your Xfinity WiFi network due to not having the WPA passphrase, here's what you can do:
Retrieve Your WPA Passphrase
- Check Your Router/Modem: Xfinity routers generally have a default WPA/WPA2 passphrase printed on a label at the back or bottom of the device.
- Use Xfinity My Account App: You can also retrieve your network credentials via the Xfinity My Account app.
- Xfinity Website: Log into your Xfinity account on their official website (xfinity.com). Navigate to WiFi Settings under Manage Internet to view your network name (SSID) and WPA/WPA2 passphrase.
Ensure Correct Entry of Passphrase
- Re-enter the Passphrase: Make sure you enter the passphrase exactly, including all spaces, capitalization, and special characters.
- Verification with Another Device: Connect a smartphone or tablet to your Xfinity network using the same passphrase to ensure it's correct.
Update Firmware
If the correct passphrase doesn't work, there may be an issue with your printer firmware. Here’s how to update your printer firmware:
Update from Printer Control Panel:
- Temporarily set your Xfinity router to "Open" or "No Security" mode.
- Connect the HP Envy 4500 to the network.
- Navigate to the settings menu on the printer control panel and search for Printer Update under Settings or Web Services.
- Once the firmware is updated, revert your router settings to WPA/WPA2 security, and attempt to connect again using the passphrase.
Download Firmware via USB:
- Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
- Enter your printer model number (HP Envy 4500) and download the latest firmware.
- Connect your printer to your computer via USB and update the firmware.
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
If your Xfinity router supports WPS, you can use this method to connect your printer without entering the passphrase.
- On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon, then Settings.
- Touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup, then Push Button.
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- Wait for the connection to establish.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
