We recently upgraded our Internet, resulting in new modem/router. I have connected my HP M1212nf printer using Ethernet, and an IP has been assigned to the printer. I can print the HP Web Services Info sheet no problem, and it gives me the same IP address.
However, when I type the IP address into my browser to set up network printing, I get the error "server not responding".
Here are the things I have tried:
- selecting the 2.4G network on my laptop before typing in the IP address
- downloading and reinstalling the printer driver/software (although I could not find anything for firmware)
- tried to connect when I have the USB connected to the printer
- restarting the router
- restarting the printer
- tried to connect using my iPad safari browser
- standing on my head
The ethernet cable is the same one that I used with my old internet.
Help! I am a little computer literate, but please spell out any steps very clearly.

Unfortunately I can't add any helpful advice, but I'm having similar problems with my HP m375. I switched from cable to AT&T, and they forced their router on me. Curious who your internet provider is and what your upgrade entailed. Maybe we can compare notes. Right now it looks to me like a router issue, but since it's only my printer that's having issues, AT&T is blaming the printer.

So I have done a little more troubleshooting. Even though the printer was assigned an IP address, the Internet connection wasn’t working. I tested this by plugging the same cord into my laptop and there was no internet.
So I took a long Ethernet cord and plugged it directly into the back of my router and then to my laptop (instead of the series of connections my internet provider, Bell, had installed) and now my laptop is connected. Yay.
I plug this cord into my printer, a different IP address was assigned, and now when I typed this into my browser, I am connected to HP’s website. Success - so I thought. I click on “enable web services”, and after a bit of spinning, I get the message “ no internet connection”.
I do think it has something to do with the 2.4G and the 5G network. My laptop was connected to the 2.4G, but how do I know which network my printer is connected to? I have read that printer can’t use the 5G, so does that mean it automatically connects to the 2.4G network?

Welcome to HP Support Community
I would like to help
This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. Do not connect it to 5 GHz Network incase your Router supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz
If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, then the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
Thank you
