When I access the Instant Ink website, it always shows my printer as disconnected from the Internet, yet each morning, the website displays how many pages I have printed. The website accesses my printer each evening at about 11:00 p.m., so why does it say 'not connected during the day. I never shut my printer off.

@Sistafatti, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like there is some confusion with the Instant Ink service showing your printer as disconnected during the day, even though it’s clearly connected and the website accesses it at night to track page usage. Here are some possible reasons and fixes for this issue:

1. Check Printer's Internet Connection

Wi-Fi connection: Ensure that your printer is consistently connected to your Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, printers can briefly lose connection or switch between networks, which may cause it to show as disconnected on the Instant Ink website.

On the printer's control panel, check the Wi-Fi signal icon to ensure it's connected to the correct network. If it's weak, you might want to move the router closer to the printer or try reconnecting it.

2. Reboot Your Printer and Router

Turn off your printer, wait for 10 seconds, then turn it back on.

Restart your Wi-Fi router. This can help clear any temporary network issues that may cause intermittent disconnections.

3. Firmware Update

Outdated firmware can sometimes cause connectivity issues. Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date:

Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support

4. Check Instant Ink Status in HP Smart App

Open the HP Smart app on your computer or phone.

Check the Instant Ink status and see if it shows as connected or disconnected. If it’s disconnected there as well, it could point to a connection issue between the printer and the Instant Ink service.

5. Internet Connectivity Settings in Instant Ink

The Instant Ink website may be updating your printer's status from your printer’s cloud connection (via HP’s servers) but might not always reflect the real-time status.

As long as the printer is still printing and tracking pages, it seems to be working as expected. The status message about being disconnected might just be a display issue on the website or a minor update delay.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much for your detailed and easy-to-understand reply. It truly made a difference. Often, I find myself frustrated when receiving replies on community bulletin boards because the replies are difficult to understand. Many individuals reply in complex computer technical terms that the average person may not grasp, leading to confusion and discouragement.

In a world of ever-evolving technology, the ability to simplify and convey information effectively is a valuable skill.

Thank you once again for your thoughtful and comprehensible reply. It is a reminder of the positive impact that clear communication can have on individuals and the community.

Hey @Sistafatti,

You're very welcome! 😊

I'm so glad to hear that the explanation helped! I totally get how overwhelming it can be when tech talk gets all jargony—it’s like trying to read ancient hieroglyphs! 😅

Thank you for the kind words, and remember, if you ever need anything broken down into simpler terms, I'm just a message away! 😎
